Job Search Leaves Some Looking into Cosmetic Surgery

While it's inevitable that the shaky economic market would eventually affect cosmetic surgeons and their patients, some surprising things have popped up due to this. For example, we hear more and more stories of people skipping out on their Botox treatments. We also hear about people who are willing to give up more things in life before they give up their monthly injectable fillers. And now we have the latest turn in the annals of the Great Recession of Ought-Eight: Procedures for the jobless.
The rational thought pattern goes something like this: Those without jobs are turning to cosmetic surgery to look good in the job interview. However, because they're now jobless, they aren't getting facelifts like they may have a few months ago. They're focusing on the cheaper procedures like, again, Botox, laser therapy, and other fillers.
In a study by the American Society for Dermatologic Surgery (ASDS), the want for simple procedures is on the rise, even though the US seems to be in a recession and the good people keep losing their jobs. And, while these procedures may be on the rise, cosmetic surgeons who took part in the online study, said their patients are more concerned now than they used to be about how much the procedures cost.
A big plus for Cosmetic Surgeons is that most people that have lost their jobs are willing to have a cosmetic procedure because they feel it might give you an edge over the other one hundred applicants. Call it the Great American Going out of Business Sale, but at least some people will look good.

Another Happy Patient!

~Welcome to the first day of the rest of my life~
I couldn’t even begin to explain how happy I am after my surgery on November 13th! I had such a great experience and would do it again in a heartbeat. My surgeon was Dr. Shane Sheibani in Los AngelesCalifornia. He did an amazing job. It has been three weeks and my incisions are almost invisible. I have been told by a friend that I have the “best boob job” that she has ever seen. His office staff has also been extremely helpful since I live in Florida but went to California for surgery. I will backtrack back to the day of surgery. I know that I have blogged here and there, but now I have had a chance to get my thoughts together. Day 1 Surgery day, I was scared thinking that the pain was going to be horrible. I went to the doctor’s office bright and early and was greeted by the friendly staff. I changed into the garments they gave me for surgery and then they started the IV. I don’t like needles at all, so that was the worst part of everything! I then remember going into the surgery room and talking with the anesthesiologist. She was a very sweet woman who soothed my fears. She told me that she was going to give me some “happy drugs” and the next thing I know, I hear people in the room asking about my job etc. Surgery was over! I couldn’t believe it. I felt a little pressure on my chest but NO PAIN! I was wheeled into the recovery room and monitored for an hour. I felt great! My friend came to get me and took me back to the house and I slept. I was told to drink lots of fluids and I did. I had a water and Gatorade right by the bed and took my meds as prescribed. I never felt pain the whole time after surgery. I felt soreness, and it was hard to move my arms, but I was expecting the worst. I am pleased to tell you that this was not a painful experience at all! On Saturday night, Jason came and took me to dinner. Of course I had to flash him! Girls, you know we owe it to Jay and Jason to show them that the money was well spent! J It was one of the best decisions I have ever made. I did sleep a lot my first week after surgery, but flew home 6 days later. The plane ride home was a little uncomfortable since I didn’t bring my travel pillow, but all is well! I am still in my surgical bra, but as soon as I can get into regular bras, I will take pictures for everyone. It has now been three weeks and 1 day since surgery and yesterday I worked out for the first time. I walked for 1hr and 15 minutes. I can only do light walking and no weights, but that is ok. I will be able to in time. I want to heal nicely. Thank you everyone for making my dreams come true, and welcome to the first day of the rest of my life. Love you always, Jessica

Free Boob Job Giveaway Winner Announced Los Angeles, CA, July 09, 2007 --(PR.com)-- MyFreeImplants.com just completed a successful 3-day extravaganza at the Erotica-LA convention, a sexuality and lifestyle exposition, which culminated with its second annual free boob job giveaway. Hundreds participated in the giveaway that was sponsored by MyFreeImplants.com & New Me Institute. The breast augmentation is valued at $5,000 and will be completed at The New Me Institute by the talented Dr. Shane Sheibani, Founder and CEO. Hundreds of women entered the random drawing conducted on stage in front of thousands of show attendees. Jessica Levine of Miami, FL heard her name drawn and she had this to say, "Thank you MyFreeImplants.com, I can't believe I'm getting a new set of boobs, I am so excited. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you." Jessica, a current member of MyFreeImplants.com online community, has decided to use her winnings to increase her bust size from a B cup to a D. The 28 year old has wanted the surgery since she was 16 years old and won the giveaway on her birthday weekend. MyFreeImplants.com was very pleased with the outcome of the show and the giveaway. Co-founder Jason Grunstra had this to say, "Erotica-LA was another huge success for MyFreeImplants.com and a lucky show attendee. On our website it can take a few months for women to raise enough money for a free boob job, whereas at the show they can increase their bust size in just a few days." The giveaway was particularly popular in its second year thanks in part to Jenna Jameson promoting the giveaway on The Kevin & Bean Show on the World Famous KROQ. She had this to say on air "How cool is that. Where else can you attend an amazing sexuality convention and walk away with a new rack." Ms. Jameson was also nice enough to officially hand over the giveaway check and pose for pictures with the winner. She congratulated Jessica and told her, "Every girl deserves a nice rack." MyFreeImplants.com is overwhelmed to have the support of the biggest name in the industry. Co-founder Jason Grunstra stated, "We're trying to do big things and no one is bigger than Jenna. Having her on board with our cause gives us that much more energy to keep fighting for small breasted women all around the world." MyFreeImplants.com is a not for profit financer of cosmetic surgeries throughout the world. The site works much the same way a dating web site works. Think MySpace with a twist; an online community, complete with profiles, blogs, photos, chat and more. Women and men sign up, and communicate online with all proceeds going to the ladies cosmetic surgery goals. In 2007, the MyFreeImplants community will raise over half a million dollars for breast augmentations.

Please take time to reflect...

First off, allow me to extend my condolences to the Kayne West and the
West family. I wish them patience and strength in these trying times.

Secondly, let me tell all of our patients and friends to take a step
back with me to put things in perspective. Although loss of life is the
ultimate tragedy, it fortunately is one of the rarities in cosmetic
surgery. Every surgery has risks, but cosmetic surgeries are some of the
safest surgeries to have.

To increase the safety measure of cosmetic surgery, I suggest you pay
attention to these issues:

1. Ask for referrals from your trusted friends who have done the
specific surgery you are interested in.

2. Do your homework. Learn as much as possible about the specifics of
the cosmetic surgery that you are interested

3. Cosmetic, Plastic and reconstructive surgery is a great, vast and
diverse field. No one surgeon is good at every thing. Make sure they are
highly experienced in the specific procedures you are interested in. It
is not enough for them to have a degree or a certificate. It is very
crucial that they are experienced.

4. There are no procedures and no surgeries that have no complications.
And any surgeon who has done enough of the procedures would have
experienced some complications. There is a saying in surgery that the
first 100 surgeons, the surgeon has to pay the patients. After that, he
deserves great pay. Ask them as to how many procedures of the specific
type you are interested in they have done. What complications they have
had and how they have treated them. The right surgeon admits that he has
had complications in his reactive, he has done hundreds or even
thousands of those procedures and he explains to you how he manages complications.

5. Make sure your surgeon has his own operating room or at least full
time access to an operating room that is accredited and/or licensed.

6. Make sure your surgeon is able to transfer you to a hospital in case
of emergency for further management and treatment.

7. Make sure a board certified anesthesiologist is conducting the
anesthesia and will monitor you.

8. A small percentage of surgeons have the super man syndrome, they
think they can do it all and get away with it and they are the solution
to all problems. Meet and interview your surgeon, make sure he has a
normal ego. Make sure your surgeon is very conservative, has the
understanding that he is only part of the equation and not in control of all the variables and that he is aware of the importance of the patients contribution and the other doctors, medical conditions of the patient (the nature of the individual patient) as well as the fact that (sentence was not finished here)

9. Above all, you are a human being. You are the most important person
when it comes to the cosmetic surgery you are looking to have. Make sure
you are put first, your safety is of outmost priority and importance and
that the doctor and his staff give you sufficient attention and respect.
Make sure you are comfortable with the doctor. You can talk to him/her
comfortably and intelligently and she/he is comfortable answering your
questions and make sure you understand the explanation he offers you.
Finally make sure your family doctor is comfortable with the idea of
your surgery and if the physicians do not encourage or recommend
surgery, do not push or doctor shop.

In summary, at the New Me, we do our best to make sure that we are
doing absolutely everything in our power to assure our patients safety.
Our surgical facility is accredited; we make sure we do preoperative
evaluations for all of our patients, we do blood tests, we do heart
evaluations, we also have board certified anesthesiologists in our
practice who conduct the anesthesia. We strive to supersede the standard
of care and that has been the key to our success.
